The Brindisi Terminal has commenced operations and Mediterranean Shipping Company and Maersk Sealand are already regularly using the port. It is currently investing heavily in equipment, advanced technology and personnel training in order to augment its presence in the container transport market.

The terminal is being developed in two distinct phases:

Phase 'A' involves the utilisation of the existing 300 metre quay with a water depth of 14.5 metres and a total area of 130,000 square metres offering 1,488 container ground slots. Presently this quay is equipped with one Quayside Crane which will be supported by two Mobile Cranes and various yard equipment.

Phase 'B' entails the use of another 450 metre quay and an additional total area of 160,000 square metres offering 2,438 container grounds slots. This phase will involve additional equipment procurement comprising of four post-Panamax Quayside Cranes which will be complemented by four Rail-Mounted Gantry Cranes and several other types of yard equipment.
